Novelist Kit de Waal, lead sponsor for low income writersOur grateful thanks to author Kit de Waal for sponsoring five Bath Children’s Novel Award 2018 entries for low income writers otherwise unable to afford entry fees. Thanks to the generosity of additional sponsors, the number of pre-paid entries is now 54.

How to apply for a sponsored entry:

To apply, please select the “sponsored entry application” option in the payment section of our online entry formIf applications exceed the number of sponsored places, the most promising novels will be selected. Successful applicants will be contacted during December 2018 and must be able to provide proof of financial eligibility such as: Jobseeker’s Allowance; Disability Benefit; Income Support; Working Tax Credit; proof of being a full-time student; Housing Benefit; proof of being a full-time carer. All details will be kept entirely confidential.

Bath Children's Novel Award 2018

The Bath Children’s Novel Award is an international prize for novels written for children or young adults


cover for The Hurting  by Lucy Van Smit, winner of the inaugural Bath Children's Novel AwardRecipients include Lucy Van Smit with the manuscript for The Hurting (published this year by Chickenhouse) and Struan Murray, who signed a six figure deal with Penguin Random House Children’s for last year’s winning manuscript, Orphans of the Tide for publication in 2020.

2018 prize: £2,500

Closing date: 2nd December 2018

2018 judge: literary agent Hilary Delamere of The Agency will pick the winning novel from a shortlist chosen by a team of Junior Judges aged from 7 to 17 years
